Our Triple Fudge Brownie Mix is rich, decadent, and delicious straight from the oven—but if you're in the mood to elevate your baking game (with minimal effort), we've got you covered. Here are five of our favourite ways to dress up a brownie using everyday ingredients and a little Secret Kiwi Kitchen magic.
1. Espresso Swirl
A shot or two of espresso (just substitute for the hot water) or a teaspoon of instant coffee dissolved in hot water adds deep, moody richness. Swirl it into the batter before baking or mix it with a spoonful of cream cheese for a marbled effect.
Why it works: Coffee enhances chocolate’s natural intensity and adds café-style sophistication.
2. Chilli + Sea Salt
Add a pinch of cayenne or chilli flakes to the dry mix before baking, and finish with a light sprinkle of flaky sea salt right out of the oven.
Why it works: Sweet, spicy, and salty is a bold flavour trifecta that makes brownies unforgettable.
3. Raspberry + White Choc Drizzle
Our brownie mix already includes white chocolate chips, but this combo takes it even further. Scatter a few frozen raspberries over the batter before baking and drizzle with a little extra melted white chocolate once cooled — if you’re feeling fancy.
Why it works: The tart burst of raspberry cuts through the richness, while the white choc adds creamy contrast in every bite.
4. Edible Flower + Citrus Zest Dust
Once your brownies are baked and cooled, dust them with a blend of grated orange or lemon zest and finely crumbled Secret Kiwi Kitchen dried edible botanicals.
Why it works: Adds colour, aroma, and a little wow factor — perfect for garden parties or gifting.
5. Tahini or Peanut Butter Swirl
Drop spoonfuls of tahini or peanut butter on top of the batter and gently swirl with a butter knife before baking.
Why it works: Adds a nutty, savoury edge that balances the sweetness and makes each bite uniquely satisfying.
More Pro Tips from Our Kitchen:
Our brownies freeze beautifully (if they don’t get gobbled up immediately). In fact, chilling or freezing them makes slicing easier. That said, we think they taste most delicious slightly warm. We also love baking them in a cast-iron tin and serving them with a scoop of ice cream for that classic 'pudding' vibe.
Happy baking!
