There's something delightful about cutting into a cake to find a whole pear hidden inside — simpler than it looks.

Whole pears poached in syrup or red wine + your choice of mix (Vanilla, Gingerbread or Dark Chocolate)

Method

1. Peel and core the pears, slicing the bottoms flat and keeping the stems on.
2. Poach for 25–35 minutes in simple syrup (water, sugar, orange peel) or red wine until tender, then cool.
3. Prepare the cake batter per the pack.
4. Pour the batter into a lined tin and stand the pears upright, batter reaching halfway up.
5. Bake per the mix instructions until a skewer comes out clean.
6. Dust with icing sugar to serve.
